Grow your own fruits & veggies

EAT OUT OF YOUR OWN GARDEN

Fruits • Vegetables • Herbs • Eggs • Honey
What do you like to eat? Dozens of fruits and vegetables will grow here in Alameda or the surrounding area. You can grow an amazing amount of food almost year round:
  • In containers
  • In raised beds
  • In the ground
  • Along fences
  • Up trellises
Even a small flock of laying hens and a beehive can fit into a compact backyard.

Alameda Edible Gardening can help you start your first garden ever, or coach you to dramatically increase the amount you produce.

Want to Start a Pandemic/Resiliency Garden?

If the COVID-19 pandemic has inspired you to grow your own food (or increase your yields), we can help you develop a green thumb. One Alameda family with a 20x30 foot backyard growing space plus two small raised beds in front grows over 30 different fruits and vegetables a year, including grapes, apples, blackberries, tangerines, broccoli, potatoes, carrots, green beans, garlic, tomatoes, squash, peppers, and leafy greens. That's a lot of food for snacking and meals throughout the year! Even if you start small, your food resiliency will add up over time, saving you money, reducing your carbon footprint, and helping to heal the earth by rebuilding the soil and supporting wildlife. There's no better time than now to start a resiliency garden that can feed you for years to come.
